Fire Chief

City of Grandview Heights

Due to a planned retirement, the City of Grandview Heights is accepting applications for the position of Fire Chief.  Grandview Heights is an increasingly desirable community in the Columbus Metropolitan area due to its accessible location and its unique blend of urban life and quiet neighborhoods.  The City is located just west of downtown Columbus and consists of a mix of light-, medium- and high-density residential development, planned in-fill and mixed use development areas, and a thriving downtown business district.

The Grandview Heights Division of Fire is a full-service agency providing services with a strong commitment to customer service.  The service area is 2.1 sq. miles with 9,800 residents which includes the Village of Marble Cliff.  The department has 19 career personnel and responds to 2,100 calls for service annually.

The Fire Chief reports directly to the Mayor.  This highly visible position requires an energetic individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to foster a strong team environment.  Successful applicants will have experience in planning and have a broad background in all aspects of service delivery including fire prevention, inspection and EMS.  The applicant should demonstrate the ability to work in a changing environment as the City is in the midst of a dynamic revitalization that may impact service delivery.

Requirements include 10 years of full-time firefighting experience including documented supervisory experience at the shift commander level or higher and the following State of Ohio certifications: Firefighter II, EMT-P, Certified Fire Safety Inspector and a valid Ohio operator’s license.  Applicants should also have completed Fire Officer I and II training or have the ability to complete the training within one year of appointment.  Completion of Hazardous Materials-Technician or Hazardous Materials-Incident Commander training is also required.  Certification as a Fire or EMS Instructor is preferred.  An associate degree from an accredited institution in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Safety Management, Business Administration, or related field is highly desired.  Completion of the Ohio Fire Executive Program (OFE) or Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO) is also desired. 

The successful applicant must be in good physical condition and have the ability to pass all pre-employment screenings including physical examination and drug screening.  The salary range for this position is $118,000 to $128,000, DOQ and experience, and includes a comprehensive benefit package.  Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, including experience and achievements in program and project management, and copies of required certifications to:
