Description: The Lebanon Division of Fire is now accepting applications for Battalion Chief. This position is responsible for the readiness of facilities, station, unit, all equipment, and gear for any emergency or non-emergency situation. This position requires operation as an Incident Commander on emergency scenes. Duties are performed under the direction of the Fire Chief.
This position requires general knowledge of office equipment. Also operates equipment associated with emergency rescue, hazardous material, environmental control, and life support. The primary work site is Fire Station 41 (601 N Broadway, Lebanon, OH 45036). Attendance at meetings may take place inside or outside the City of Lebanon.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises and may operate the response to emergency calls for suppression, rescue, hazardous material and environment control as they may relate to fire suppression, medical treatment and life support incidents
- Supervises and renders medical treatment at accident scenes and at calls for service
- Observes events, persons and circumstances that must be remembered and accurately related through testimony in court
- Assists with training issues
- Assists the Fire Chief with Staff scheduling, evaluation, recruitment, and training
- Engages with the public and the community to effectively represent the department
- Prioritizes emergency and non-emergency operational issues
- Assists with special event preparation
- Assists other divisions of the city as necessary
- Responds to complaints and requests for information from citizens
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Assume the duties of the Fire Chief in his/her absence as directed.

REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (All must be maintained during employment)
- Certified Firefighter II, Current CPR certification, Certified Hazmat Operations, Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic certification current at time of employment and Fire Safety Inspector. Certifications from other states must meet the equivalency standards as set forth by the appropriate agency in Ohio.
- GMVEMS annual protocol testing
- Certified Fire and/or EMS Instructor
- NIMS 100, 200, 300, 700 & 800
- Fire Officer I and II Certification
- 5 years of supervisory experience
- Valid Ohio Driver's License
HIRING PROCESS
- Wednesday, August 16, 2023 beginning at 0800: Physical Agility Test – Modified CPAT with 10:20 minute pass/fail.
- Monday and Tuesday, August 21 and 22, 2023 beginning at 0800: 30-minute Panel Interview.
- Saturday, September 2, 2023, 0800-1100: Assessment Center.
- Monday and Friday, September 11 and 15, 2023 beginning at 0800: Final Interview with City Manager and Fire Chief.
- Conditional Offer: Background Investigation, Voice Stress Analyzer, and Pension Physical (or standard physical if currently enrolled in the OP&F pension) including drug screening.
