The City of Cincinnati is seeking an exceptional and progressive leader to serve as its Fire Chief. This is a wonderful opportunity to play a significant role in leading the oldest fully paid professional fire department in the United States. Cincinnati is a unique and special place, with the benefits of a larger city yet the closeness and comforts of a small town.
The Fire Department provides fire suppression and EMS services to 77 square miles of the City. The Department operates 26 fire stations and employs a total of 889 employees across various divisions. City desires a forward-thinking, entrepreneurial leader who has experience in change management and performance management.
The Fire Chief should have experience leading and innovating on fire safety issues and navigating relationships with labor unions.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Fire Science or Public/Business Administration.
A Master’s Degree in Public/Business Administration is highly desirable.
Five years of progressively responsible senior management experience as a fire service officer desired, including at least three years supervisory/managerial experience.
Experience serving at an executive level in a mid-sized agency or larger is highly desirable, with management experience at an agency the size of the Cincinnati Fire Department desirable.
