Washington Township
Washington Township Founded in 1809, Washington Township contains 27.5 square miles in northwestern Franklin County, southwestern Delaware County and southeastern Union County. The entire City of Dublin is located within the Township and is part of the greater Columbus metropolitan region. The Township and the City of Dublin is comprised of over 48,000 residents and is home to the PGA Memorial Tournament and Dublin Irish Festival. Several large businesses are within the Township service area including Cardinal Health, OCLC, and Wendy’s International. Washington Township is governed by an elected board of trustees and an elected fiscal officer.
Day-to-day operations are managed by a trustee-appointed professional administrator and professional fire chief. Washington Township:
• Receives over 6,000 calls annually – 75 percent are EMS calls.
• Conducts nearly 2,000 fire code compliance inspections annually. • Maintains four fire stations located at 6255 Shier Rings Road, 4497 Hard Road, 5825 Brand Road and 5750 Blazer Parkway, and an administration and fire training facility at 6200 Eiterman Road.
• Employs 112 full-time and 15-30 part-time professional firefighters.
• One of only nine fire departments in Ohio and one of 288 in the world that is both accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International and has an ISO-1 rating. Fast Facts on Washington Township:

The township administrator and fire chief are supported by a Leadership Team consisting of a human resource manager, a communications manager, community safety education and coordinator, an assistant fire chief, fire marshal, EMS manager, a training and safety manager, battalion chiefs, captains, lieutenants, firefighters, prevention inspectors and administrative coordinator.
The Opportunity:
The Fire Inspector inspects existing structures, buildings, construction and remodel sites to ensure fire code compliance; reviews building plans and buildings under construction, issues permits, warnings and citations, and; participates with public safety education and other duties using superb community engagement skills promoting positive collaboration and teamwork with the community.
The Ideal Candidate:
The Township is seeking a forward-thinking and experienced fire personnel who is passionate about public service, fire code compliance, and safety prevention. The Fire Inspector is a part of a dynamic prevention team who collaborates with internal and external customers to public safety in the community. The Fire Inspector serves as part of the fire prevention team and assisting the community with code compliance, safety education, fire extinguishers, sprinkler, and other suppression systems and investigating any potential violations. The Fire Inspector ensures the safety of the community and ensures information is accurate and timely. The Fire Inspector will have professional experience with state and local fire code compliance, fire investigations, has the ability to develop professional working relationships with the City of Dublin and local businesses. Ideally, the Fire Inspector will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in EMS, Fire Science or related field from an accredited college or university with (5) or more years’ continuous fire service experience; however, a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required with a preference for an Associate’s Degree.
Additionally, the Fire Inspector position requires:
• Valid Ohio Motor Vehicle Operators License with good driving record;
• State of Ohio Firefighter Level II Certification;
• State of Ohio EMT certification;
• State of Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification;
• State of Ohio Board of Building Standards Fire Protection Inspector certification within two years of appointment
• ICS 100, 200, 700, 800
• State of Ohio Underground Tank Inspector certification within one (1) year of appointment, and;
• Basic & Advanced Fire Investigator certifications within one (1) year of appointment.
Compensation and Benefits:
The Fire Inspector is a non-exempt position with an approved annual base salary of $94,508.56 and performance-based bonus potential. The Township’s benefit package includes Township paid medical, dental, vision, Life and AD&D insurance plans plus Long Term Disability. Our High Deductible Healthcare Plan comes with a fully-funded Healthcare Savings Account. The Township offers both a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan and a Roth 457 Compensation Plan. As a public employer, the Fire Inspector will participate with the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund, receive paid sick leave, earned time and vacation time as well as a flexible schedule.
