Assistant Fire Chief
Violet Township Fire Department
The Assistant Fire Chief assists the Fire Chief in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Violet Township Fire Department (VTFD), establishing, and executing strategic initiatives and goals, and ensuring legal and industry compliance. This position directly manages the VTFD’s daily operations and training. The Assistant Fire Chief acts as the Fire Chief in their absence and performs other duties as required by the Fire Chief.
The Assistant Fire Chief has primary responsibility for VTFD operations and training. The Assistant Fire Chief also assists the Fire Chief in the efficient and effective delivery of departmental services including, without limitation, protection of life and property, emergency medical services, enforcement of fire regulations, fire safety inspections, and educational programs, in addition to oversight of personnel, training, internal and external communications, budget, and other related departmental needs and expectations.
Minimum Qualifications
• Associate’s Degree or equivalent credit hours from an accredited college AND five (5) years of experience as a Company Officer or Chief-level officer
Certificates/Licenses Required
• A valid Ohio State Driver’s License
• A valid State of Ohio Firefighter I & II Certification
• An Ohio or NREMT-Paramedic Certification
• Blue Card Incident Commander Certification, preferred
• Ohio Fire Safety Inspector Certification, preferred

A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including a drug screen. The salary is negotiable within parameters set by the Violet Township Trustees. The selected candidate will be eligible to participate in the Township’s Health, Dental and Vision insurance plans.
