Evendale Fire Team Supervisor

The Evendale Fire Team Supervisor will lead a 24/7 Fire Operation consisting of around 15 Unionized Fire Inspectors and serve as the subject matter expert for the campus fire program. This is a 1st shift Supervisor role but does require the ability to be on call for emergencies or off-shifts if needed. You will partner with our Evendale Security Team Supervisor for coverage on all aspects of Plant Protection (Security and Fire) and crisis management, which will include physical security, electronic security, crisis management, emergency response activities, fire prevention, suppression, training, and administration. You and the team will ensure GE employees, technology, and assets are secure, while providing value to the GE Business.
The Evendale facility is VPP certified, a Title V EPA site, and is home to 6,000+ hourly and salary employees. The site is over 450 acres, with 9 miles of roadway, a Fitness Center, Wellness Center, Learning Centre and Welcome Center. The Evendale Site is GE Aerospace’s US headquarters housing offices for engineering, supply chain operations, engine services and support functions along with shop floor and industrial space for Engine Development and Assembly, Engine & Component Testing and Engine Manufacturing Operations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in fire operations or management)
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in fire and/or security management, leadership, or Operations
Other Required Qualifications
- Ohio Certified Fire Safety Inspector
- Ohio Certified Firefighter Level II
- Ohio Certified Emergency Medical Technician and/or Paramedic
- NIMS Certified (100, 200, 700, 800)
- Experience with Hazardous Materials Operations
- Knowledge of fire suppression systems and prevention, emergency medical services, and applicable laws
- Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes nights, weekends, and holidays
- Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance (Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information)
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Fire Inspectors and Paramedics providing Fire Protection, Crisis Management and Life Safety support to all personnel on the Evendale site
- Maintain departmental discipline, conduct, and general behavior of assigned personnel
- Ensure compliance with all government regulatory requirements relative to Security and Fire Protection and design and implement emergency response plans
- Partner with other Evendale Business Leaders to ensure that all facets of fire protection within the site are in the highest possible state of readiness
- Monitor the completion of fire inspections, along with the maintenance and inspection of valves, fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, alarm systems, fire doors, and fire hose within the site
- Conduct fire prevention and fire department training activities
- Direct the enforcement of Federal, State, and local fire codes and regulations for our site
- Liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement and government regulations and enforce fire prevention ordinances
- Ownership/Stake Holder in MOC SME Pathways
- Engagement/collaboration with EHS Team on key programs: Combustible Dust, Hot Work, Confined Space, Work at Heights, Excavation and Trenching, planned general inspections
- Instruct and train all employees in Fire and Security practices and procedures
- Identify compliance vulnerabilities and reporting and conduct risk assessments and vulnerability studies.
- Implement Fire / Security technologies throughout the site
- Assist in development of service and maintenance contracts
- Assists with departmental policy development, employee selection, contract negotiations, fire code interpretations, scheduling, payroll, and budgetary allocations
- Oversees management and maintenance of apparatus and ancillary vehicle fleet
Desired Experience
- Must possess extensive knowledge of firefighting methods
- Extensive knowledge of NPFA, Ohio Fire Code 1301:7-7., and Ohio Building Code Chapter 9 Fire Protection Systems
- Extensive experience and knowledge of creating and leading standard procedures for maintaining a large industrial site’s inspection, testing, and required documentation for Fire Alarm/EWS Systems as required by NFPA 72 and local and state codes
- Communications/Operation Center experience handling a dispatch center, Access Control systems, CCTV, and Radio Operations
- Experience with fire and security technology systems, hardware and software and computer systems
- Thorough knowledge of modern fire suppression, prevention and emergency medical service principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment
- Experience in a Supervisory role in a Unionized environment
- Well-rounded understanding of total quality management techniques
- Knowledge of Department of Defense Industrial Security requirements and regulatory requirements
- Solid oral and written communication skills
- Robust interpersonal and leadership skills
- Effective coaching expertise, when working with cross-functional groups, other businesses, and global teams
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and in decision making, give and receive verbal and written instruction
