Fire Chief

Madeira and Indian Hill Joint Fire District (Hamilton County)

Due to the pending retirement of their long tenured Fire Chief, the Madeira and Indian Hill Joint Fire District is accepting applications for the position of Fire Chief.  The Fire District serves the upscale residential communities of Madeira and Indian Hill, located 13 miles northeast of Cincinnati, Ohio.  The area is known for its high quality of life, quiet and rural atmosphere and exemplary school systems.  The Madeira and Indian Hill Joint Fire District is a combination department with 18 career and 13 part-time personnel operating from two newly constructed fire stations.  The department is a well-respected, full-service agency that provides emergency response services and community outreach to approximately 14,500 residents in an area spanning 24 square miles.

The Fire Chief reports directly to the 12 member Fire District Board of Trustees.  This highly visible position requires an experienced individual who can provide enthusiastic, hands-on leadership and the ability to develop strong working relationships.  Successful applicants will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, astute financial management skill, and the ability to develop a changing workforce.  Applicants should have a broad background in all aspects of service delivery including suppression, prevention and inspection. 

Applicants should have a proven record of leadership with a minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible full-time fire service experience, with five or more years of permanent assignment as a command officer (i.e. Battalion Chief /shift commander or above).  Experience in an executive level position such as an Assistant Chief or Deputy Chief is highly desirable. Applicants must possess the following Ohio certifications: Firefighter II, EMT-B (Paramedic preferred), and a valid Ohio Operator’s License.  Applicants should also possess or have the ability to obtain fire instructor certification and fire safety inspector certification.  Applicants must also possess a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Safety Management, Business Administration or a related field.  Completion of an advanced degree, the Ohio Fire Executive Program (OFE) or Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO) is preferred.  The successful applicant must be in good physical condition and have the ability to pass all pre-employment screenings including physical examination and drug screening.
